Should I Update on Wi-Fi or Mobile Data?

Learn why Aqua One updates should always be installed on Wi-Fi and what happens if you try to update on mobile data without a strong connection.

Updates on the Aqua One are recommended to be done on a secure and strong Wi-Fi connection to avoid interruptions.

If you tap Install Now without being connected to a strong Wi-Fi signal, the update could fail. When that happens, a screen will pop up letting you know the update was not successful, along with a reminder to check your internet connection.

That's why we always recommend connecting to Wi-Fi first β€” it's the only way updates can go through smoothly and securely.

Why can't I update on mobile data?

Update files can be large, especially feature updates. Downloading over mobile data can be slow, unreliable, and may consume a significant portion of your data allowance. A weak or dropped cellular connection mid-update can also cause the installation to fail, which may require troubleshooting to resolve.

Tips for a smooth update:

  • Connect to your home Wi-Fi network before starting the update

  • Make sure the signal is strong β€” move closer to the router if needed

  • Keep the device plugged in during the update to avoid battery-related interruptions

  • Ensure at least 15 GB of free storage is available before starting
